High Tunnel, High Yield -- Feeding local urban communities

High Tunnel

Through its High Tunnel Initiative, NRCS provides technical and financial assistance to build high tunnels for producers of all types -- from traditional to organic, from rural to urban, from large-scale operations to backyard plots.

Stacey Givens owns a unique operation in Portland, Oregon called The Side Yard Farm and Kitchen. It's an urban farm with three separate lots within one mile from each other, a supper and brunch club, and a catering company. When she's not busy farming and cooking, Givens holds special events on her farm, including kid camps and education activities, and even dabbles in bee keeping. Read the article.
