LOOK UP!
Events at Griffith Observatory
February 2016
Friends Of The Observatory is launching a new way for Friends to explore what's happening at Griffith Observatory. Each month we will send you previews of the month's events so that you never miss an opportunity to be inspired by the frontiers of astronomy.
Now to February 23 – All Five Naked-Eye Planets Line Up in the Morning Sky
A line-up of all five bright planets is happening at dawn from mid-January through February 23. Starting about 45 minutes before sunrise, the planets are visible in a line from low in the southeast across the southern part of the sky to high in the west-southwest.

February 5, 2016 – All Space Considered  7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Griffith Observatory holds this exciting, FREE public program on the first Friday of every month in the Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon. Join the Observatory's curatorial staff and occasional special guests as they examine and explain the most-talked-about subjects in astronomy and space science.

February 13, 2016 – Public Star Party – 2:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
FREE public star parties are held monthly at Griffith Observatory from 2:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. with the assistance of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society, the Los Angeles Sidewalk Astronomers, and The Planetary Society. They are a chance for the whole family to look at the Sun, Moon, visible planets, and other objects; to try out a variety of telescopes; and to talk to knowledgeable amateur astronomers about the sky and their equipment.

February 16, 2016 – Sunset Walk and Talk – 5:25 p.m. to 6:25 p.m.
Each month the Observatory offers a FREE sunset hike led by a Park Ranger and a Museum Guide. The hike starts on the Observatory's West Terrace, proceeds up the Charlie Turner trail to the Berlin Forest on the hill just north of the Observatory, and then returns to the West Terrace. The distance covered is about half a mile over the course of an hour at a very moderate pace with stops along the way to discuss the highlights and history of Griffith Park, and objects visible in the evening sky.
